Customer Success Story
LEADING GLOBAL IT SERVICES COMPANY
ORACLE ULA RENEWAL
Saved $2 Million
Case Summary
The client’s application ULA was due for renewal, Oracle LMS also approached the client for a license audit on technology programs as a pressure tactic. The client has been using Oracle’s cloud subscriptions as well although on standard terms. Oracle’s ULA renewal proposal was highly-priced, offered std terms & did not meet the customer’s future product requirement adequately. The client was not sure about the decision to renew ULA & its consequences but wanted to save money & design the best outcome for them hence they engaged experts from Rizen for help.
What we did?
Our experts reviewed historical contracts since 2010 to study key terms and exposures. We identified un-certified programs licenses worth 500 K USD which are being used by the client but never granted by Oracle by way of formal certification at ULA renewals creating huge compliance exposure. Provided a basic understanding of key ULA terms & their impact on future licensing. Understood unused products and created strategies to save technical support spend for those licenses Determined future product strategy & consumption by working with key IT stakeholders. Designed 3 target contract structures along with product composition & target pricing.
Results
Rizen was able to bring down the target deal price by more than 30% resulting in the TCO savings of about $1.7 Million over 3 years and another $600K on existing support. Oracle granted licenses for un-certified programs without additional fees saving $500K over 3 years Negotiated non-standard terms around license metric exception, audit risk avoidance & true-up of the capped licenses only after the end of the term with no audit risks in between giving the customer an important time to realign its IT strategy. Negotiated fresh Oracle Cloud Agreement for customers with many non-standards terms to protect customer’s interest along with the improved discounts on Oracle SAAS & PAAS offerings.
