Case Summary

The client had existing Oracle ULA which was due for expiry & contained restrictions on certification on public cloud and virtual environments creating a major compliance exposure for the client. Oracle was forcing the customer to renew the ULA on their pricing and terms without addressing the key concerns of the client who did not have an idea of existing usage of Oracle licenses & hence was not ready to take informed decisions fearing non-compliance if ULA is not renewed.

What we did?

Rizen engaged proactively with the client and designed an effective strategy for negotiations with Oracle for ULA renewal. We measured the license usage of clients across the environment to determine the certification entitlements & non-compliance risks. We then designed plans to mitigate all the risks & also maximize the license certification for the client so they negotiate from the position of strength with Oracle We bargained extension of time with Oracle for officially completing ULA certification gaining time for negotiations. We reviewed the existing Oracle ULA contract and provided recommendations for the negotiations We determined the go-forward product BOM based on historical usage data and growth projections and provided the target price for the contract closure Worked with the customer through the negotiations with Oracle with the guidance till the closure.

Result

The customer saved 1.5 Million US in TCO in their ULA renewal.
Customers got the right to certify the licenses on the public cloud and virtual environment avoiding huge risks.
The customer bargained important rights of ULA extension for the future subsidiaries, reorganizations and M&A with Oracle covering their business & financial risks.
